A Message from The President of the Board of Trustees
As the High Holy Days approach, I am thinking about the small group of Jewish families who, more than 80 years ago, gathered in a storefront on 41st Street to found Temple Beth Sholom. They believed so deeply in Jewish life and in the importance of creating something not only for themselves, but for generations they would never meet. Because of their vision, countless individuals and families have found meaning, friendship, and belonging within these walls.
Today, we have both the privilege and the responsibility to sustain this sacred community for those who will come after us. Your generosity and investment allow Jewish life to flourish at TBS.
Your support makes possible the moments that shape lives: more than 300 children discover confidence, curiosity, and purpose at the Innovative School; nearly 1,000 community members come together each year to serve others through Mitzvah Day; teens develop the pride and leadership skills to carry Jewish life forward – all in a secure, welcoming environment where our community can gather, learn, worship, celebrate and find connection.
One of our graduating high school seniors, Emme Basner, recently reflected: “Today, especially when Jewish people around the world feel unsafe because they are being targeted, this Temple has created a community that makes me feel so proud to be Jewish, and I will take that with me wherever I go.”
That pride, that sense of belonging, that sense of connection to something larger than ourselves doesn’t happen by accident.
The Temple Beth Sholom we cherish today exists because previous generations understood that strong Jewish communities must be built, nurtured, protected, and sustained. Now it is our turn.
As you reflect during this season of renewal, I invite you to consider what TBS has meant in your life and in the lives of those you love. Then I ask you to join me and once again, help ensure that this community remains strong, vibrant, and welcoming for generations to come.

One day, others will tell the story of this chapter in Temple Beth Sholom’s history, and I hope that they will say our generation cared enough to leave this community stronger than we found it.
