Our youth actively participate in the pursuit of tikkun olam, the Jewish concept of repairing the world, through diverse volunteer initiatives, social justice endeavors, and community service engagements. This includes an annual trip for our 9th-12th grade teens to volunteer in Orlando with Give Kids the World, a nonprofit organization that provides critically ill children and their families with week-long wish vacations at no cost.
Teens who have a passion for giving back and enjoy working with children are warmly welcomed to join our Madrichol and BESHTY Leads programs. Teens in grades 7 and up are eligible to volunteer in our elementary jLAB classrooms via our Madrichol program. Our 9th graders immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Jewish heritage as they embark on an unforgettable journey to New York City, the vibrant epicenter of Jewish life in America. This trip transports teens to the heart of Jewish history and culture, where they explore iconic landmarks, engage with diverse communities, and forge meaningful connections to their Jewish identity.
Our Confirmation teens join fellow Jewish high schoolers from across the nation for an enriching weekend seminar dedicated to civic action. They immerse themselves in the world of U.S. politics and discover the power of their voice to make a difference. Teens engage in thought-provoking discussions on current issues and legislation, explore the impact of the Reform movement on the political landscape, and gain hands-on experience in lobbying their local representatives.
11th and 12th grade teens participating in our Fellowship programs embark on unforgettable trips, designed to foster meaningful connections, broaden horizons, and deepen their Jewish identity. These immersive experiences provide opportunities to explore diverse cultures, engage with local communities, and make lasting memories. Trip locations alternate each year; recent trips included Los Angeles and a Civil Rights trip through the south.
At Temple Beth Sholom, we believe that fostering connections to Jewish heritage and culture is an integral part of a meaningful Jewish identity. Embarking on a teen trip to Israel is an exceptional opportunity to immerse oneself in the rich tapestry of Jewish history, vibrant communities, and breathtaking landscapes. We encourage our teens to travel to Israel with either the Alexander Muss High School in Israel program, or Yallah Israel through the URJ.
