Walk the Road to Freedom: A Civil Rights Journey with Rabbi Gayle Pomerantz

Some history can be read in books. Some history has to be stood in.

Join Rabbi Gayle Pomerantz and fellow members of Temple Beth Sholom on a Civil Rights journey to the places where ordinary people did extraordinary things. Together we’ll stand where marchers stood, sit where activists organized, and hear the stories of the courage, sacrifice, and faith it took to win the freedoms and rights so many of us take for granted today.

This isn’t a sightseeing tour. It’s an up-close and personal encounter with the movement that changed America, and a chance to ask ourselves what it still asks of us.

For our community, this journey carries special meaning. Jewish Americans marched, organized, and gave their lives alongside Black Americans in the struggle for justice. When Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel walked arm in arm with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. from Selma to Montgomery, he said he felt as though his legs were praying. We invite you to pray with your feet, too.

Trip details are still being decided, based on participation.
