Family & Learner Engagement

At jLAB, Jewish learning extends beyond the classroom

Our Family & Learner Engagement experiences are designed to build meaningful connections among learners, families, and the broader Temple community through interactive programs, celebrations, service opportunities, and shared learning.

We believe that strong partnerships between home and school help deepen Jewish identity and create lasting memories. From holiday events and family learning programs to community gatherings and hands-on activities, jLAB encourages learners of all ages to explore Judaism together in engaging, joyful, and inclusive ways.

Family and Grade Level Shabbat Opportunities

At jLAB, we believe Jewish learning is strongest when it is shared by the whole family. We know families have busy schedules, so we strive to create meaningful and accessible opportunities for parents, caregivers, and learners to celebrate Shabbat and Jewish life together.

Throughout the year, families are invited to join us for grade-level Shabbat experiences, Family-friendly Shabbat celebrations, Tefillah opportunities, holiday programs, and community-wide events designed to deepen connection, learning, and joy.

Led by our clergy, educators, and special guests, these opportunities offer warm and engaging experiences where families can build community, celebrate traditions, and create lasting Jewish memories together.

While your family is always encouraged to join us for Shabbat, these Friday evening experiences are especially accessible for families!

Madrichol

Madrichol is jLAB’s teen leadership and classroom assistant program for teens in grades 7–12. Through hands-on involvement in classrooms, school programs, and community initiatives, Madrichol participants play an essential role in supporting younger learners and helping jLAB thrive.

Teens engage in sessions as a group to build leadership skills and reflect on personal goals and growth throughout the year. Madrichol participants serve as role models, mentors, and active contributors to our learning community while gaining valuable experience in leadership, responsibility, and teamwork.

Teens may apply their hours toward community service requirements.

jLAB Learner Leadership Team

The jLAB Learner Leadership Team is an inclusive leadership opportunity open to all jLAB learners. This program empowers learners to take an active role in shaping their learning community while developing confidence, responsibility, and a strong sense of Jewish identity.

Participants engage in meaningful leadership experiences alongside peers, educators, and staff, exploring different areas of interest such as teaching support, community building, creative expression, and program participation. Learners are encouraged to discover their strengths and begin developing their own leadership path within jLAB.

Through hands-on involvement and reflection, learners build skills in collaboration, communication, and responsibility while contributing to the life of our jLAB community. The Learner Leadership Team fosters connection, growth, and pride in being part of a vibrant Jewish learning environment.

jLAB Tzedakah Council

The jLAB Tzedakah Council is an opportunity open to all learners. Participants explore the Jewish value of tzedakah (giving and justice) while taking an active role in thoughtful decision-making about how communal funds can make a meaningful impact.

Throughout the year, council members learn about community needs, discuss important issues, and work together to decide how to allocate philanthropic resources. Learners practice collaboration, listening, and consensus-building while deepening their understanding of Jewish values and responsibility.

The Tzedakah Council offers learners a chance to engage in real-world giving, reflect on what matters most to them, and contribute to strengthening both the local and wider community through acts of justice and generosity.

Sholom Rockers

Our spirited youth choir invites learners to lift their voices in joyful Jewish song while building vocal skills, learning Hebrew and liturgical melodies, and exploring the role of music in Jewish prayer and celebration. Learners will be expected to perform at many special services and community events, making music a meaningful part of their Jewish expression.
Note: A full calendar of rehearsal and performance commitments will be shared.

L’Dor Vador

L’Dor Vador is a jLAB experience that connects learners across generations through shared Jewish learning, storytelling, and community engagement. Open to all learners, this program celebrates the idea of passing wisdom, traditions, and values from one generation to the next.

Through meaningful interactions with educators, families, and community members, participants explore Jewish life stories, reflect on personal identity, and build relationships that strengthen their connection to Jewish heritage and community.

L’Dor Vador creates opportunities for learners to see themselves as part of an ongoing chain of Jewish life – honoring the past, living fully in the present, and helping to shape the future.
